Maryland’s Frances Tiafoe continued his magical ride at the US Open on Wednesday afternoon, topping Russian Andrey Rublev in straight sets to advance to the semifinals of the grand slam tournament in Queens.
Tiafoe's jubilation after winning was captured by ESPN, which shared a video of him playing to the crowd, dancing, and celebrating with friends and family while the crowd went crazy.
Tiafoe topped his foe 6-7, 6-7, 4-6, taking two tiebreakers in a hotly contested match that sent the 22nd seed to the semifinals, where he will face the winner of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, who were scheduled to face each other later on Wednesday, Sept. 7.
The 24-year-old Hyattsville native from Prince George's County is now the first American man in a US Open semifinal since 2006 as he continues drawing the attention of the country and world amid his meteoric rise.
Andy Roddick is the last American man to win the US Open, which dates back to 2003 when he topped Juan Carlos Ferrero to claim his only Grand Slam championship on his home soil.
Tiafoe was 8 years old when Roddick hoisted the trophy.
